By combining faith-driven leadership and innovative solutions, Clements Fluids maximizes the lifecycle of well assets

From plan to plug, Clements Fluids (Clements) provides high performance fluid systems engineered to enhance well productivity and reliability. As an industry expert in customized fluid solutions, the company supports clients throughout their wells’ entire lifecycle. With a radical focus on its core values, Clements has expanded its reach across major basins and remains dedicated to prioritizing people above all else. Chief Executive Officer Megan Tarrant reflects on the company’s beginnings and how faith continues to shape its leadership today.

“Clements is a family business founded by my parents, Mike and Donna Clements, in 1985. They built the company on a foundation of relationships, integrity, marketing material for Clements Fluids commitment and excellence, all values that continue to guide us today. My husband Chase and I joined in 2007, shortly after we graduated college. Since then, we have expanded from two plants to ten locations across Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Chase and I are deeply committed to carrying on my parents’ legacy while also preparing the company for the future. Forty years later, our mission remains the same: to unearth and unleash the God-given potential in every person and every well we encounter. This philosophy embodies our definition of stewardship, which is to faithfully manage what has been entrusted to us, both in terms of business and people. I took over as CEO in 2019, and the business means so much to our family that I strive to uphold this stewardship and build a sustainable business for generations to come,” she begins.

Preemptive approach

With an expanded geographical footprint, Clements delivers a comprehensive range of solutions essential for many customers in the industry. “At Clements, we are about more than ‘fluids’; we are well performance partners. We maximize the lifecycle value of every well through engineered fluid systems, predictive planning, and partnership rooted in stewardship. This approach defines how we serve customers: with prevention, precision, and purpose. We engineer and manufacture customized fluid systems that support the entire lifecycle of the well, including drilling, completions, and production. Our portfolio includes water-based fluids, clear brine fluids, chemical additives, and proprietary systems engineered to perform in critical situations. These systems enable operators to respond quickly in emergencies, supplying thousands of barrels of fluids when needed to protect both the well and the reservoir by minimizing exposure, maintaining uptime, and ensuring operational continuity. A drilling rig might mix a few hundred barrels a day on site, burning time, money, and manpower. Meanwhile, Clements moves that much fluid in minutes. Our speed comes from strategy. Each facility is stocked, prepped, and synchronized with pre-blended fluids in the right weights and volumes to meet regional demand. This preemptive approach allows us to respond five-to-ten times faster than on-site mixing, thereby minimizing exposure, reducing downtime, and ensuring consistent quality across every job. We don’t wait to react; we prepare to respond. Every hour we save a customer is stewardship in motion, readiness that protects people, production, and potential. That’s the difference between being ready and being reactive.

“Above all else, we strive to be ‘part of the plan’ for our customers. While many recognize us for our emergency services, which we truly deliver better than anybody else, we always emphasize to our customers that we do not want to be just the emergency call. Our goal is to be integrated into our customers’ strategies, or plan, from the outset. We pride ourselves on our ability to respond quickly during well control events or unexpected losses, but where we really shine is when we are involved early in our customers’ fluid program. We lean into what we call a preventative partnership: most fluid companies react when something goes wrong, but we help from the beginning, so it doesn’t go wrong. This proactive mindset not only improves well performance but reflects our belief that prevention itself is stewardship. This collaboration allows us to design smarter systems, position the right safety stock, and prevent issues before they arise. For us, prevention is the ultimate goal, and by being part of our customers’ plan, we position them for success in any scenario,” Megan elaborates.

Maximizing potential

By promoting this preventive approach, Clements empowers customers to maximize the potential and lifecycle of their assets, in line with the core values the company was founded on. “I have integrated our values of relationships, integrity, commitment, and excellence into our stewardship practices and our operations. To us, stewardship is truly the foundation of sustainability. Our goal is not just to save resources, but to take care of them. This philosophy is evident in everything we do, from how we design our fluids to how we lead our teams. We focus on repurposing and recycling fluids, which significantly helps our customers reduce waste. Beyond ESG compliance, this mode of operation is about respecting what has been entrusted to us. Our Salt System exemplifies this commitment by cleaning out the wellbore and protecting the pay zone, effectively restoring flow to wells that others might consider spent. As a result, we extend the life of the well, which is invaluable for our customers, given the substantial investment required to drill and complete a well. By ensuring no potential is left untapped, we help them achieve their full return on investment,” Megan adds.

Value and capability

Being woman-owned and led is a great source of pride for the business, especially in such a male-dominated field. Megan sheds light on her approach to leadership and the role faith plays in her style. “For us, being woman-owned is not just about ticking a box but creating space for every person to bring their God-given potential to the table. Allowing people to live out their potential fosters synergy and diversity of thought, which makes us stronger and empowers us to solve problems. My journey in the industry began with my faith, as I initially positioned my husband to take over the business while I stayed home with the kids, believing that was what Chase wanted. For years, I worked behind the scenes to support him, but we faced challenges that led us to seek executive coaching and family counseling. This journey helped us discover who God had created us to be as individuals. Each person is different, and through this process, I uncovered that one of the gifts God had given me was leadership. My daughter has inherited the same gift, and I understood that I needed to recognize my own gifts so that I could help her see hers as valuable. At Clements, we are dedicated to giving people the permission to be the person God has called them to be.

“Our mission to unearth the God-given potential in every person is about recognizing inherent value and capability. In leadership terms, it means unleashing potential because we believe work is meaningful, and every person matters. For me, faith and business are inseparable. My faith informs how I lead, make decisions, and define success. It reminds me that everything I do is an act of stewardship, encompassing how well I care for what has been entrusted to me, such as people, resources, and my influence as a leader. It’s the framework that guides how we engineer solutions, lead people and build sustainable impact across generations. When I speak about unearthing God-given potential, it is not a slogan but a conviction. I believe that aligning our work with this purpose allows us to create something lasting that honors both God and people. We strive for excellence by going above and beyond because excellence honors God and inspires those around us. It is essential to help people understand that what they do on each day matters because they, too, are valuable individuals created with purpose. Thus, the recipe for unearthing someone’s potential begins with connecting each individual to the bigger picture,” she ends.
