Dale Power Solutions

Guaranteeing supply

With over eight decades of experience in successfully delivering reliable power and engineering technology, Dale Power Solutions (DPS) represents a proven leader in the provision of innovative standby power systems that protect the power supplies of clients operating all over the world. The company was established in 1935 and has since grown into one of the world’s largest suppliers of standby power systems and service support, including power generators and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). These products are further supported by a comprehensive aftersales service, which includes complete asset life cycle management. Indeed, by combining several years of technical and operational expertise, DPS is able to leverage its resources and commitment to delivering a premium level of service to provide an exceptional client experience. This has led to the business securing an enviable reputation as one of the most respected providers of standby power solutions around the world, which has been recognised by DPS twice receiving the prestigious Queens Award for Export.

The company supports this installed base by offering turnkey lifecycle management of standby power systems, which begins at the initial concept stage and continues through bespoke state-of-the-art design, project management and manufacturing tofinal installation and commissioning. Once equipment is successfully installed, DPS is further on-hand to deliver a full maintenance and support service that is currently provided to more than 9000 generator and UPS units around the world.

With its rich history of technical excellence, DPS continues to develop innovative technologies and solutions that are designed to protect the most demanding and critical applications across the world’s industry sectors. This includes the company’s trusted remote monitoring system, which provide clients with peace of mind in knowing that power supplies at unmanned sites are being monitored. This is achieved through a 24/7 service that ensures that any on-site problems are quickly identified, analysed and resolved, making DPS monitoring solutions an ideal system for sites where uninterrupted power is critical. Data relating to the performance of equipment is gathered, tracked and analysed, meaning that failures can be predicted and that preventative action can be taken to avert power failures. “The DPS Insight remote monitoring system (RMS) provides an effective platform for the remote monitoring of generators and UPS units, empowering rapid deployment and an efficient interface to the monitored equipment,” elaborates Sales and Marketing Director, Lance Lewis. “The Insight RMS also places additional functionality at the fingertips of the end user, including the display of fuel tank levels, further power monitoring equipment and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) infrastructure – meaning that even the client’s kettle can be monitored. The system has been developed with the ability to interface with various markets and manufacturers and is supported with robust multi-level data security that maintains ease of access for the user.”

The on-going development of new technology and the company’s steadfast commitment to aftersales support, has enabled DPS to establish a firm presence within several industry sectors including marine, oil and gas; defence; manufacturing; healthcare; utilities and government; rental and construction; transport and travel; and telecommunications applications. With a team of over 100 service personnel DPS is able to meet the specific requirements of clients operating within the most demanding areas, while within the marine sector a team of qualified offshore installation and service engineers further provides 24/7 cover for 365 days a year. The company boasts a 40-year history of operation within the marine, oil and gas sectors and has recently been involved in Shell decommissioning operations in the North Sea. “DPS was appointed by Shell to provide a bespoke designed maintainable generator solution with transferable spare components, which led to the development of the Dale 1700 Offshore Diesel Generator Module. This is comprised of a 1700kWe (NET rating), 6.6kV diesel engine driven electrical generating set, which is fitted within a DNV 2.7 certified offshore enclosure,” Lance explains. “Understanding Shell’s ‘fast-track’ needs, we worked to deliver the highest rated power density product on the market. This included the integration of the generator and safeguarding systems in accordance to Shell approved specifications, resulting in the delivery of an elite technical partnership to ensure that all of the project’s requirements were met – including continued sustainability in the workplace.”

Throughout all of its operations, DPS places significant importance in the continued training and development of its workforce and community responsibility. This enables the business to guarantee the highest levels of service and has recently resulted in DPS being awarded the newly initiated Princess Royal Training Award in recognition of its outstanding training and skills development programmes. Looking beyond the company DPS recognises its social responsibilities such as the recent commitment to the restoration project of Ayton playpark as part of the Brathay Challenge where nine apprentices (who are also award multiple award winners with varying backgrounds) have formed a team to ensure its success reiterating the company core training values that by working together they can achieve more. This commitment to training will ensure that the company will retain the skills required to continue to provide market-leading power solutions well into the future. Commenting on the award and the future of the business, Chief Executive of DPS, Tim Wilkins concludes: “We are delighted to have been recognised by the Princess Royal Training Awards Commission for our training programme, in particular for our support of apprenticeships. It’s great to be part of the inaugural awards and for Dale to stand alongside other prestigious brands, including some of our customers, EE, National Grid and ISS. Our training programme goes very much hand in hand with our growth strategy and we know that by investing in our people we can continue to grow a healthy, successful and sustainable business.”
