Today’s world is powered by critical infrastructure and technology, from data centers and hospitals to factories and the electrical grid, that people rely on every moment of every day. The companies supporting these essential systems turn to Eaton for expert assistance in helping them solve even the toughest of power management challenges because of its reliable, efficient, safe, and sustainable power management technologies. Eaton’s intelligent products and services enable clients in more than 160 countries to effectively manage power, providing them with the necessary tools to use power more efficiently and operate their businesses more sustainably. Matt Hockman, President of Global Energy Infrastructure Solutions, introduces us to Eaton and its Crouse-Hinds and B-Line series.

“Eaton is an intelligent power management company dedicated to protecting the environment and improving the quality of life for people everywhere. The globalWorker conducting an emissions test on industrial equipment company cultivates an innovative culture that adapts to new challenges and embraces opportunities, which is essential for fostering continuous growth and innovation within the organization,” he begins. “Our company was founded in 1911 and has grown, both organically and by uniting some of the world’s most respected names in our industries. In 2012, Eaton acquired Cooper Industries and our industry-leading solutions include Crouse-Hinds and B-Line series technologies.”

Eaton offers a broad scope of capabilities, products, and solutions across data center, utility industrial, commercial, machine building, residential, aerospace and mobility markets. “Our Crouse-Hinds series remains true to its well-established name, which stands for safety and reliability in the harshest of environments where power management is most critical. This series encompasses a vast array of products ranging from fittings, cable glands, enclosures, and commercial products to instrumentation, plugs, receptacles, and airport lighting. Our B-Line business has a strong legacy as a global provider of cable support systems and enclosure solutions for engineered facility subsystem applications, with over 60 years of experience in the industry. These solutions cater to key segments such as commercial, industrial, oil and gas, utility, and data center markets,” Matt informs.

To support growing customer demand, Eaton has recently made an investment of $15 million to increase production capacity at its Syracuse facility. Matt sheds light on the anticipated impact of this on the company’s operations. “The investment in our Syracuse location will increase production capacity and enhance our foundry operation and the related downstream processes. Through this investment, our facility will be equipped with upgraded capabilities, increased resilience, and elevated unit output, all of which position us strongly to continue serving increasing customer demand. We are excited to support developments in areas like liquefied natural gas (LNG) and chemicals by ensuring we provide a world-class experience for our customers through timely and seamless delivery.

“Practically speaking, this investment will enable us to upgrade the technologies we are operating with. For instance, we will leverage automation to enhance safety and efficiency, while sensor technology will empower us to improve overall equipment effectiveness, leading to advancements in predictive and preventive maintenance. We are already utilizing additive manufacturing technology and are planning to expand its use as part of these investments. Deploying these cutting-edge technologies will not only boost our energy efficiency but also reduce our environmental impact, most significantly within our furnace and melting operations throughout our foundry. Investing in our foundry will pave the way for next-generation products in panel boards, lighting (including smart lighting), and connectivity (such as plugs, receptacles, and glands). Additionally, our cable tray operations are now more than 75 percent automated,” he reveals.

Indeed, operating sustainably is an important part of our strategic planning. To reduce our overall environmental impact, we establish baselines for key areas such as waste, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. We also identify pivotal projects that can significantly help us to advance our sustainability goals. Subsequently, we incorporate these action plans, including resource allocation and capital investments, into our operational strategies and execute them diligently. This has been an ongoing process, which has enabled us to stay on track towards achieving our sustainability targets for 2030,” Matt shared.

This commitment forms part of Eaton’s corporate culture and core values, alongside an emphasis on enhancing quality of life for its workforce and communities. “Our collective purpose is to deepen our impact on the world as the demand for power continues to rise. To realize this vision, we are focused on developing our employees to help them succeed professionally and personally, exceeding our customers’ expectations by proactively understanding their challenges and providing practical solutions, ensuring value for our shareholders through our actions, and supporting our communities by leveraging our time and skills to meet social and economic needs where we operate. We are passionate about fostering growth through learning and employee development, championing a culture of sharing innovative ideas, empowering our entire team with a customer-centric approach, and prioritizing continuous improvement,” Matt continues.

Building on this foundation, Matt is also excited about creating a true, powerful cross-global function. “Our objective is to cultivate global collaboration through ideas, innovation, and solutions. We rely on our international teams to drive ownership, transparency, deliberate growth, calculated risks, and excellence while servicing our customers locally and globally. From every corner of the world, our customers are undertaking projects of increasing complexity, which require us to be agile and flexible to support different stakeholders and project timelines efficiently.
