Doosan GridTech and the future of energy storage
As the battery energy storage market moves into a defining era, Doosan GridTech is stepping forward as a leader in performance-focused system integration. With its proprietary control software, vendor-agnostic approach, and real-world testing environments, the company delivers utility-scale storage systems that meet the grid’s most pressing needs. Backed by the 128-year legacy of the Doosan Group, Doosan GridTech offers customers the reliability of an established name and the agility of an innovation-driven team.
Why BESS matters now
Grid-scale storage is no longer optional. With renewables on the rise and data centers consuming record volumes of electricity, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming the backbone of a resilient and stable grid. While the US energy storage market is seeing temporary turbulence due to shifts in tax credit structures and procurement cycles, analysts project a rebound starting in 2027 that will see installed grid-scale capacity more than triple by the end of the decade.
“We know the road isn’t linear, but the trajectory is clear,” says Steve Levy, CEO of Doosan GridTech. “Storage will define the next chapter of the energy transition and we’re building the control systems, integration processes, and supply chain muscle to support it. We aim to be the most reliable partner for utilities, developers, and IPPs navigating this next phase.”
Integration without compromise
Doosan GridTech specializes in full-scope battery energy storage system integration. The company’s offering spans initial modeling, procurement, construction coordination, software integration, and long-term operations and analytics. Its flagship product, DG-IC®, is a platform-agnostic power plant controller purpose-built for grid-tied storage and hybrid systems.
“DG-IC® is our brains behind the battery,” says CTO Steve Hummel. “It manages energy dispatch, supports stackable operating modes, and delivers real-time visibility across hardware. With our Typhoon HIL lab, we simulate real-world grid conditions to test and validate system behavior before equipment even reaches the field. That cuts commissioning risk and accelerates speed-to-revenue.
“Our team doesn’t just install systems; we design, test, and deliver storage that performs on day one and every day after,” he adds. “That’s what our customers count on.”
By taking a vendor-agnostic approach, Doosan GridTech allows customers to select the best battery and PCS suppliers for their unique projects. The team provides hands-on support from design to deployment, and beyond, through comprehensive O&M packages and robust analytics.
BESS software that solves real problems
DG-IC® is built for scale and flexibility. The software supports local, remote, and automatic control modes; integrates seamlessly with open protocols like MESA, DNP3, and Modbus; and enables both standalone and hybrid configurations. In late 2025, the company will release DG-IC 4.0, with unified cloud-based monitoring, microservices-based architecture, and deeper battery analytics.
“Our customers, especially utilities, IPPs, and developers, want partners who understand the full lifecycle of a BESS deployment, not just the technology,” says Lori Sutton, CMO and Head of Global Sales. “They’re looking for execution certainty, clarity on how storage supports their broader business models, and insights that help drive long-term value. That’s where our platform and people make the difference.”
Projects with purpose
Doosan GridTech’s portfolio includes projects across the US, Australia, and Asia. Its work with utilities in Florida highlights the company’s ability to align BESS design with tight project schedules and regulatory demands. In Australia, the Tailem Bend II project demonstrates DGT’s skill in utility-scale hybrid/solar battery systems, controlling solar and storage assets in tandem to deliver firm, dispatchable power.
“Hybrid systems are the future,” says Steve Hummel. “But only if they can be controlled intelligently. Our DG-IC® platform makes it possible.”
Execution at scale
With more than a decade of experience in battery storage and software innovation, Doosan GridTech is now expanding its commercial footprint across North America. Its growth is backed by Doosan’s global supply chain leverage, deep relationships with top-tier battery manufacturers, and a procurement model designed to minimize risk.
“Customers choose us because we’re not just a tech company,” Lori adds. “We’re an integration partner. That’s a big difference when you’re building on a tight deadline.”
“We’re focused on operational excellence,” Jen Young, COO, confirms. “That means disciplined delivery and continuous improvement on every project.”
Ready for what’s next
As energy storage continues to mature, stakeholders need more than technology – they need trust. Doosan GridTech delivers that trust through its Voice of the Customer lab, vendor-neutral controls platform, and commitment to customer success from design to long-term O&M.
“We see ourselves as the trusted integrator for utilities, developers, and IPPs managing multi-project portfolios,” Steve Levy concludes. “We’re here to help our customers lead through the next energy cycle.”
You can meet Doosan GridTech at RE+ 2025 in Las Vegas from September the 8th to the 11th, where the company will showcase its latest innovations in utility-scale storage and hybrid plant integration.
