From Canadian roots to global expansion, Beyond Energy is redefining managed pressure drilling

Beyond Energy Services and Technology Corp (Beyond) is a privately owned oilfield services company focused exclusively on managed pressure drilling (MPD), an advanced drilling technique that enables precise control of wellbore pressure to unlock challenging reservoirs safely and efficiently. Founded in Alberta in 2015, the company was built by a group of highly experienced professionals who saw a gap in the market for a more integrated, technology-driven MPD provider. Beyond has since grown rapidly across North America and into international markets, completing thousands of projects and establishing itself as one of the fastest-growing MPD service providers in the industry.

Redefining MPD

“From day one, our goal was not just to participate in the MPD space, but to redefine it, bringing together engineering, equipment, and execution into a single, cohesive offering,” Eric Legge, President and CEO continues. “What differentiates us is our commitment to innovation and ownership of the full MPD value chain, from feasibility analysis and engineering design through to field execution and post-operation analysis. That integrated approach, combined with a strong safety culture and a passion for solving complex drilling challenges, has allowed us to build long-term partnerships with leading operators around the world.”

MPD fundamentally improves safety by maintaining precise control over wellbore pressure throughout the drilling process. “By operating within narrow pressure windows and actively managing downhole conditions, MPD significantly reduces the risk of kicks, blowouts, and lost circulation events,” Eric explains. “It also enables real-time monitoring and rapid response to changing conditions, enhancing well control and protecting both personnel and the environment. From a cost perspective, MPD delivers value by increasing drilling efficiency and reducing non-productive time. Technologies like automated pressure control and advanced hydraulic modeling allow for faster drilling rates and more consistent performance, the result is a safer operation that also drives significant economic benefits, something that is increasingly critical in today’s energy landscape.”

Providing a fully integrated suite of MPD solutions designed to support operators across the entire lifecycle of a well, Beyond’s services include rental equipment, modelling services, real-time monitoring, and 24/7 engineering and operational support. “Beyond develops and deploys advanced technologies such as rotating control devices (RCDs), automated backpressure systems, and proprietary hydraulic simulation software like Minerva Hydraulics™, which enables engineers to optimize drilling performance before and during operations,” Eric adds.

“What truly sets us apart is our ability to integrate these capabilities into a seamless operating model. Our solutions are designed to minimize rig footprint, reduce personnel requirements, and accelerate rig-up times, all while improving performance in complex environments such as HPHT wells, underbalanced drilling, and extended reach applications. This holistic approach allows our clients to drill wells that would otherwise be uneconomical or technically unfeasible.”

Beyond’s unique offering has solidified its industry-leading position, which has been fundamental to achieving its tenth anniversary. “Ten years is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of,” Eric states. “At the core of our success is our people; we’ve built a team that genuinely cares about the work we do, the clients we serve, and the vision we’re pursuing. In an industry where execution matters, having a passionate team that is deeply committed and accountable makes all the difference.

“Equally important has been our willingness to challenge the status quo. We set out to do things differently from the beginning, integrating technology, engineering, and operations in a way that hadn’t been done before in MPD. That focus on innovation, combined with a relentless commitment to safety and operational excellence, has allowed us to build trust with our clients and establish a strong reputation in the market. Ultimately, our longevity reflects both our people and our purpose.

“However, while ten years is an incredible achievement, we’re still early in our journey,” he adds. “The energy industry is evolving rapidly and technologies like MPD are becoming increasingly critical to unlocking complex resources. We believe Beyond is uniquely positioned to play a leading role in that evolution, and we are excited about what the future holds, not just for our company, but for the entire industry.”

Expanding presence

Having celebrated this milestone, the company is showing no signs of slowing down. “We are strategically focusing on strengthening our core markets in North America, where we have built a strong foundation and longstanding customer relationships,” Eric says. “These markets continue to offer significant opportunities for innovation and expansion, particularly as operators look to improve efficiency and safety in increasingly complex wells.

“At the same time,” he continues, “we are actively expanding our presence in the Middle East and broader European regions. Through strategic partnerships and ongoing deployments, we are establishing a strong foothold and demonstrating the value of our approach in new markets. The Middle East particularly represents a significant opportunity for growth, with complex reservoirs and large-scale operations that align well with the strengths of our MPD technologies. It’s a region actively seeking innovation, which we’ll deliver through our unique operating structure and novel technologies.”

Pushing the boundaries

Beyond’s expansion strategy is at the heart of its growth plan, but the company is rooted first in creating meaningful impact. “Our priorities for 2026 are centered around innovation and growth,” Eric shares. “On the technology side, we’re developing next-generation solutions that will fundamentally change how MPD is executed. A key example is Olympus, which leverages machine learning and AI to enhance decision-making, optimize performance, and reduce human variability in operations. From a business perspective, we have an ambitious goal to double our revenue over the next three-to-four years through a combination of continued growth in our core North American markets and expansion into the Middle East and Europe. By aligning technological advancement with geographic growth, we are positioning Beyond to scale rapidly while maintaining the high standards of safety and performance that define our brand.

“Beyond will continue to lead and disrupt the MPD industry. Our ambition is to be recognized not just as a service provider, but as a technology leader that is shaping the future of drilling,” Eric concludes. “That means continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible – leveraging automation, data, and advanced engineering to deliver safer, more efficient operations for our clients. We also expect significant growth in both our geographic footprint and market share as we aim to build a truly global business that sets the standard for MPD. Ultimately, success for us means staying true to our core values while continuing to evolve and lead in an ever-changing industry.”
