How global industries benefit from ESG Solutions’ revolutionary subsurface diagnostics and actionable insights

ESG Solutions, a Texas based company, is at the forefront of revolutionizing subsurface diagnostics for the energy, mining, and geotechnical industries. Since its inception in 1993, ESG Solutions has provided cutting-edge, customized solutions that empower clients to make informed, data-driven decisions across a variety of operational projects. Through its innovative technologies, the company enhances safety, productivity, and cost-efficiency, reducing risks and maximizing operational effectiveness. The company tailors its proprietary technologies to meet each customer’s unique needs, leveraging its deep expertise to deliver timely, actionable insights. David Moore, Chief Executive Officer, tells us more about ESG Solutions’ mission and impact.

Setting up a microseismic monitoring unit at an Australian open pit“As a global data company, we monitor and process data for more than 80 customers in 28 countries around the world. Operating in the three core markets of energy transition, mining and energy, we employ more than 140 people across seven countries. Our dedicated and experienced workforce is essential to delivering reliable, round-the-clock data services to our clients. We support a variety of global markets with eight innovative products supporting all three of our core sectors. Our services range from electromagnetic technology that maps subsurface fluid and plume movements to surface and downhole arrays for induced seismicity, as well as seismic safety equipment for hard rock mines. Additionally, our turnkey solutions include custom-designed equipment, installation, and ongoing maintenance of our clients’ monitoring systems, ensuring they have a reliable network providing 24/7 access to actionable data streams,” he describes.

Sustained growth

At ESG Solutions, 2024 marked a record year for growth, according to David. He explained the steps taken to achieve this milestone: “This tremendous growth was mainly driven by our focus on expanding within markets that we already serve. We are particularly bullish in the energy transition sector, which includes Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), and wastewater disposal monitoring. Moreover, we have made significant investments in our mining business. As the demand for rare earth metals increases and mines delve deeper for mineral extraction, our scalable seismic products and services are perfectly positioned to grow alongside these operations. Together, these factors create a powerful recipe for sustained growth.”

Reflecting on his own journey, David discusses his career background and the events that led him to join ESG Solutions. “I began my career as a captain in the United States Air Force. After some time, I left the service to pursue an opportunity with General Electric (GE), where I spent a decade working at GE Power and GE Oil & Gas. In 2015, I transitioned away from GE to run a portfolio company for a private equity group. To me, the change of pace in the private equity world was both exciting and rewarding. The company specialized in upstream manufacturing for the energy sector. At present, I serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Deep Imaging and ESG Solutions, a role I have had the honor to hold for the past seven years. Despite the challenges faced by the industries we cater to in the last few years, including the pandemic and cyclical commodities markets, I am proud of what our team has been able to accomplish as we continue to innovate and push boundaries,” he recounts.

Key advantages

An important part of ESG Solutions’ strategy to stay on the leading edge of innovation is its integration of machine learning, enabling the company to provide better data and safety to customers. “In addition to machine learning, we have also invested heavily in data science. Our leadership teams in product development have pursued advanced education in machine learning as well as its implementation and applications in business at MIT, ensuring we keep up with the latest and greatest in artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, we have commercialized a machine learning neural network program for a client, which is running at an accuracy greater than 98 percent in event cataloging, surpassing the 91-to-95 percent accuracy achieved with human quality control. This exceptional level of accuracy is made possible by training our models with more than 30 years of data that our business has acquired, a unique advantage no other company in our industry can match. We believe that to drive the fastest and most accurate data, we must have industry-leading machine learning capabilities,” David explains.

ESG’s unique and patented ability to integrate multiple data streams also enhances the accuracy of customer products. Across all industry sectors, ESG Solutions has integrated fiber into its product lines, demonstrating its commitment to delivering the ultimate turnkey solution for its customers. “By incorporating fiber into our products, we gain two key advantages: greater flexibility in our offerings and enhanced fidelity in the data sets that we collect. For instance, we can acquire data through our customers’ existing fiber, or we can deploy our fiber-optic based wireline downhole to gather strain data, microseismic activity, and production flow information. Furthermore, combining geophone and fiber data provides us with increased accuracy and coverage of our operator’s areas of interest, a capability no other company can match. This is especially valuable for our energy operators who seek deeper insights into the lifecycle of their wells,” David concludes.

By blending decades of industry expertise with cutting-edge technology and a customer-centric approach, ESG Solutions is revolutionizing subsurface diagnostics. The company’s commitment to delivering actionable insights, unmatched precision, and sustainable growth ensures it remains a leader in the global market.
