With more than 170 years of combined expertise, the Indeck Group is a single source of power equipment and engineering services for its clients. The company provides complete shop-assembled, custom and field-erected boilers as well as auxiliary equipment on a rental, purchase or lease basis, including entire power plant development, ownership and operation.
Indeck has provided shop-assembled boilers for the mining industry, including multiple units to an aluminum company in Australia. With over 5,000 successful boiler installations in 45 countries, it has the experience and complete boiler product line for industrial installations. “The top industry trade names of Indeck, Keystone Energy, Volcano, Erie City Iron Works, Zurn, Aalborg, Indeck Boiler Corp., International Boiler Works and International-Lamont are all under one roof at the Indeck Group,” President Marsha Forsythe says.
Powering Up
Multiple firms operate under the Indeck Group’s umbrella, including Indeck Power Equipment Co., based in Wheeling, Ill. The firm started operations in 1960 as the nation’s first emergency boiler rental company and today has the one of the largest inventory of boilers for sale, lease or rental in North America.
This gives it the ability to quickly ship worldwide to meet its customers’ needs. “Stock boiler sizes range to over 250,000 pounds-per-hour of steam. With a full rental inventory of mobile boilers, we can deliver steam power 24/7,” according to Russ Rabago, rental manager.
A Recognized Leader
Also part of the Group is Indeck Keystone Energy LLC, which is based in Erie, Pa, and has operations dating back to 1840. Its roots include companies that were vital in the country’s industrial revolution. The company started as Presque Isle Foundry, an iron foundry, then became Erie City Iron Works, Zurn Energy and Aalborg to name a few. Today, Indeck Keystone Energy is the supplier of OEM parts and services for its former operating names of Erie City Iron Works, Zurn Energy Division and Aalborg Industries.
Now, as part of Indeck, the firm offers custom design, upgrade and modification services, as well as performance studies, design improvements and system retrofits, notes Indeck Keystone COO Chris Petcos.
Indeck Keystone also designs and manufactures solid fuel and waste heat recovery boilers and larger modular packaged boilers. Petcos adds that the company’s engineering department is recognized as one of the top leaders in the industry.
Energy Development Edge
Indeck Energy Services, also under the Indeck umbrella, develops, owns and operates renewable energy projects and power plants. It has developed 3,000 megawatts in the United States, Canada, Guatemala and the United Kingdom.
Currently, it owns and operates many gas power plants, a biomass plant, a biomass pellet production facility, as well as interest in 12 ethanol plants that produce 850 million gallons per year. “Our insight into the industry gives us an edge in creating businesses that produce energy for future generations and create jobs, while simultaneously respecting the environment,” Forsythe says.
