Maalt LP

In the competitive oil and gas industry, Maalt LP demonstrates a number of reasons for customers to work with the company. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Maalt specializes in frac sand logistics for its oil and gas customers, offering nine transload locations in Texas and Oklahoma; covering 10 shale plays in Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio and New Mexico; and operating with a fleet of more than 200 pneumatic trucks. The company also offers rail service accessibility and real-time tracking software, and it is continuously improving and enhancing its operations to better serve its customers.

“At Maalt, we know the energy business changes on a daily basis,” the company says. “That is why it has always been our focus to react quickly to customers needs. Over the past eight years, Maalt has grown from two terminals in Fort Worth, Texas, to an extensive network of strategically positioned terminals covering the shale plays in Texas and Oklahoma.”

Although Maalt was experiencing rapid growth, it realized there were other ways it could focus on the needs of its customers, and it did this by partnering with affiliate companies. One of them is Granbury, Texas-based Vista Sand, which specializes in dry silica sand for oil and gas fracturing.

“With a team of experts committed to providing high-quality sand and customer services nationwide, Vista Sand is a leader within the industrial sand sector,” the company says. “Our highly innovative excavation, washing and drying systems ensure that our products are among the best in the nation.

“Founded in 2003, we manage operations in multiple states. Our products are crucial to the business operations for our wide variety of customers, including various oil and gas companies, water services and trucking companies. Although we are best known for our silica sand production, used to expand our nation’s energy resources, we also produce sand and fill dirt for sports fields, golf courses, masonry, brick sand and road fill.”

Keeping Customers Agile
On its own, Maalt has a combined storage capacity of more than 370,000 tons, allowing it to meet customers’ needs on short notice while reducing logistics costs. But its affiliate, Rycut, meets Maalt’s customers’ needs by custom-building storage and transload facilities. Maalt affiliated itself with Rycut to meet its customers’ increasing demand for storage and quicker delivery to the wellhead sites.

Rycut developed and constructed Maalt’s newest transload facility in Dilley, Texas. This state-of-the-art facility is located on 220 acres and is served by the Union Pacific Railroad. “Offering both unit train and manifest rail service solutions in the Eagle Ford Shale as well as built-to-suit storage solutions, Maalt provides forward staging of product, minimizing trucking costs to the wellhead,” the company says.

In addition to its affiliates, the company owns Maalt Transport, its fleet of trucks. Maalt Logistics Solutions is the company’s logistics arm, providing customers with full-service logistics 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The company notes that its Railtronix system also allows it to provide:

+ Terminal automation
+ Business intelligence and data analytics
+ Cloud-based products

“Maalt is committed to keeping their customers agile,” the company says. “We understand that our customers need to be in control of their frac sand at all times. That requires around-the-clock access to data.”

Top Priority
As much as Maalt is dedicated to serving its customers, it views safety in the same high regard. The company explains that safety remains its top priority in all it does, which is driven by its ownership and leadership and applied through its operating management teams. Its affiliates also are held to the same standards. Maalt’s goal is to create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment while also applying robust operating and maintenance practices at its facilities.

“Maalt ownership partners have set clear expectations designed to help all leaders excel as safety leaders and to implant a strong safety culture with all Maalt employees,” the company says. “Safety is our core value that guides us to act in a certain way. Additionally, our safety policy and procedures clarify the basic rules our team members must follow including expectations for operating safely, responsibly and reliably. Our leaders reinforce the message that it is not just what we do, but how we do it that is important.”
