The division’s passion for innovation and insights gained from collaborations across all continents, contribute to generating effective solutions and transforming the future of oil and gas around the world.

Furthermore, with the ability to draw on the Mott MacDonald Group’s wealth of multi-disciplinary expertise, the division has successfully undertaken some of the most challenging projects in the oil and gas sector, such as the Cawthorne Channel Gas Gathering project in Nigeria.

As recently as the end of July 2009, Mott MacDonald was appointed to work on another prestigious project, this time in India. The company has been appointed by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) to provide engineering, procurement and construction management consultancy services for a proposed single point mooring (SPM) project that will improve the evacuation of crude oil from the very large crude carriers (VLCC) to its refinery.

CPCL operates a refinery in Chennai, India, which has a capacity of 9.5 million tonnes per annum that the company is planning to increase to 10.5 million tonnes per annum. As part of this expansion, CPCL also aims to install a SPM facility six kilometres offshore at about 28 metres depth, connected with a 48-inch diameter, eight kilometre long sub-sea pipeline. The new mooring facility will allow VLCC of 300,000 dead weight tonnes capacity, which can carry up to two million barrels of crude oil, to berth and discharge, in all weather conditions.

Mott MacDonald’s oil, gas and petrochemicals team based in Kochi will lead the project with support from colleagues around the Mott MacDonald Group to deliver this fast-track project due for completion by mid 2011.

All of Mott MacDonald’s offices around the world have in-depth local knowledge, backed by global resources, enabling the company to offer clients the competitive advantage of a faster, round-the-clock response.

When it comes to the Middle East, Mott MacDonald realises significant cost savings for its customers by using its local offices to undertake assignments. These Middle East operations are located in Abu Dhabi, Cairo, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, and Muscat, with additional offices in Gaza, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, and Yemen.

So, whatever a customer needs and wherever their operations are based, Mott MacDonald has all the skills, resources and enthusiasm needed to help with every stage in planning, developing and maintaining onshore and offshore facilities for oil, gas, LNG and associated products.

For offshore facilities its expertise ranges from compiling a definitive database on pipeline loss of containment incidents to comparative risk assessment of failures and impact of fires and explosions on platform structures.
