Raise the roof
The biggest privately financed rooftop solar panel on the east coast of Thailand has officially opened. The gigantic rooftop solar panel on the SIG packaging plant in Rayong, Thailand, is the result of the close co-operation between SIG and Symbior Solar, who designed and installed an effective solar photovoltaic (PV) system covering an area of 17,664 sqm.
The solar project, with 9048 solar panels that can produce up to 4431 megawatt hours of electricity per year, reduces CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions by up to 90%, whilst also saving electricity cost. The SIG packaging plant in Rayong can now proudly claim the title of being the biggest solar PV installation in the entire Eastern Seaboard Industrial Park.
Lawrence Fok, President & General Manager Asia-Pacific of SIG commented: “At SIG, we take a holistic view to help us understand and reduce our footprint on society and the environment. We want to be net positive and set ourselves ambitious goals. We call that going WAY BEYOND GOOD. Our new solar roof in Rayong is one of our various steps in our journey.”
The installation of this huge solar roof supports SIG’s commitment to becoming a net-positive company by contributing more to the society and the environment than it takes out across the value chain.
