Schroeder Valves GmbH

Quality assured

A 120-year-old family owned and operated company based in Gummersbach, Germany, Schroeder Valves is today a global specialist in designing and manufacturing protective pump fittings.

From its humble beginnings back in 1889, up until the end of the Second World War, the company manufactured agricultural equipment, before it began work designing and producing protective pump fittings. In the decades that followed Schroeder Valves expanded and optimised its portfolio, pursued a greater international presence and grew rapidly as a result.

For more than 60 years Schroeder Valves has been responsible for producing superior quality valves for refineries and power plants, the chemical industry, the offshore sector and the production of renewable energies. With a product range encompassing everything from throttles and automatic recirculation valves to high-pressure control valves, each product is custom designed and manufactured to meet the unique needs of its clients’ pumps and system data. The superior protective qualities and proven longevity of these products contribute to lower system and operating costs for its customers.

Valves made by Schroeder Valves are renowned globally for their exceptional quality, excellent reliability and long service life. Its products are suitable for use under extreme conditions assuredbecause it exclusively uses premium components and materials. In addition, no other service provider in the market is as dedicated as Schroeder to further the technical development of specialised pump fittings. With offices in Chile, China, France, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Canada, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain and the US, the company is able to effectively meet the needs of its international clientele.

Each valve that leaves the company’s factory is unique and custom designed to meet the ends of that specific end user. These customers rely on Schroeder Valves’ know-how and state-of-the-art engineering. Refineries and the offshore sector are just two of the fields where these valves and associated products can be found in regular use. In refining crude oil is divided into useful components and prepared into marketable products such as naphtha, gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, light fuel oil or liquefied gases.

After the primary processing a number of finishing processes are used to remove pollutants and improve the quality of intermediate products. In refineries hazardous substances are dealt with, such as hydrocarbon, hydrofluoric acid, acid water, various liquid gases, toluene, anilines and ethylene oxide, while the fluids are transported in high-pressure circuits with high vapor pressures. Under such conditions, only the most reliable components guarantee safe operating procedures. Schroeder Valves’ products have been reliably protecting pumps in refineries around the globe for decades and will continue to do so in decades to come.

When it comes to offshore operations, the extraction and processing of petroleum and natural gas moves in a field of tension between increasingly difficult to access mining areas, significant security regulations and increasing environmental protection requirements. This puts stringent demands on the technology used and requires an experienced and reliable partner. Schroeder Valves has been designing and manufacturing high-quality and safe valves for the industry for decades.

The water injection pumps are used in the offshore production of oil work with very high pressures. Schroeder Valves’ products effectively protect these expensive pumps against damage. The systems have to be extremely robust and able to withstand high pressures and aggressive salt water. With the exclusive use of quality materials Schroeder Valves meets these requirements. Safety on offshore platforms is an important aspect for operators and each and every one of the company’s quality products protects the powerful fire pumps, ensuring safe operations.
Whenever pumps are in operation there is a crucial need to also have special valves that protect these pumps against any damage that may occur as a result of a partial evaporation of the pump content when it is operated under little load. Fortunately for its customers, the Schroeder automatic recirculation valve (SSV) can provide all of these desired protection functions, while also meeting reliability and low maintenance requirements.

For more than 50 years, these valves have been successfully used in nuclear power plants, coal-fired plants and in the offshore industry the world over. It is because of its rotary bypass trim design that the SSV is able to guarantee modulating and low-wear minimum flow controls. A non-return function in the main pumping direction prevents pump damage by back flow from the process line; meanwhile, a multi-stage pressure reduction process in the secondary outlet ensures low cavitation levels. Further praise is reserved for the SSV for its low-pressure loss in the main direction and its long service life.

In response to the growing demand for its products and services, the company recently made the move into its new headquarters. Located on a 10,000 square metre plot of land, this 4000 square metre, 3.3 million euro facility represents the completion of a much needed expansion for Schroeder Valves, one that opens up a host of new possibilities. Offering more than twice as much space as the company’s old home, this new facility is now home to the complete production cycle, from production planning right through to welding, painting, assembly and quality control.

This latest milestone is just one of many that have helped define Schroeder Valves throughout its long and distinguished history, and will go a long way to ensuring the long-term prosperity of a company with an unrivalled reputation for product quality and trustworthiness.
